Germany invests 3 billion euros for emergency, digitization and IT security

German Health Minister Jens Spahn has announced an extraordinary investment plan for health care.

Funding for hospital modernization projects will be provided under the Zukunftsprogramm Krankenhäuser (KHZF), the hospital modernization program.

The projects eligible for funding are defined in the draft law on the future of hospitals (KHZG), which was approved by the Bundestag on 18 September and is expected to enter into force next month.

These include patient portals, electronic documentation of care and treatment services, digital drug management, IT security measures and cross-sector telemedical network facilities. Funding can also be used to introduce or improve telemedicine, robotics and high-tech medicine.

Hospitals have been able to start implementing projects since the beginning of this month and can apply for funding until December 31, 2021. The digitization status of the hospitals will be evaluated in June 2021 and 2023.

We hope that also in Italy, after many speeches, a similar initiative will be undertaken and that, above all, the resources made available will be well invested.
